Inventory

What an inventory item card shows

Understand the information shown on each inventory item card.

Each inventory item card shows the most important information about one stock item without needing to open the full item page.

Main item details

  • Item name shows the product name.
  • Status badge shows whether the item is Active or Inactive.
  • Low stock badge appears when stock is at or below the alert level.
  • Description explains what the item is.
  • Supplier badge shows the preferred supplier if linked.
  • SKU badge shows the item code if saved.
  • View opens the item details page.
  • Edit opens the edit page for that item.

Pricing and stock fields

  • Selling price is the price you sell the item for.
  • Cost price is what the item costs the business.
  • Gross margin is selling price minus cost price.
  • Stock shows the current stock quantity.
  • Low stock level is the warning level.
  • Unit shows how the stock is measured, such as pcs, kg, 500ml, bottles, or packets.

How to read gross margin

  • A positive gross margin means the selling price is higher than the cost price.
  • A negative gross margin means the cost price is higher than the selling price.
  • If gross margin is negative, check whether the cost price or selling price was entered wrongly.

Example

  • If Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500ml has a selling price of KSh 3,500 and a cost price of KSh 2,500, the gross margin is KSh 1,000 per unit. If stock is 2 and the low stock level is 5, Bizwazi can show it as Low stock.
