How low stock and out of stock warnings work

Understand low stock alert levels, low stock badges, and when to reorder stock.

Low stock warnings help you reorder before you run out. Out-of-stock warnings help you avoid selling items you no longer have.

Low stock alert level

  • The low stock alert level is the number where Bizwazi should start warning you.
  • If current stock is at or below this level, the item can show as Low stock.
  • Set the alert level based on how quickly the item sells and how long restocking takes.

Out of stock

  • Out of stock means there is no usable stock left according to Bizwazi.
  • Check stock before selling or invoicing out-of-stock items.
  • If the physical shelf has stock but Bizwazi shows zero, use a stock adjustment after checking why.

How to choose a good low stock level

  • Fast-selling items should have a higher alert level.
  • Items that take long to reorder should have a higher alert level.
  • Slow-moving items can have a lower alert level.
  • Expensive items may need a careful alert level to avoid tying up too much cash.

Kenyan mini-mart example

  • If milk sells quickly every morning and supplier delivery can take a day, the shop may set the low stock alert level higher. If a slow-moving imported item sells once a month, the alert level can be lower.
