How to edit an inventory item
Use Edit item when item details need to change. You can update the name, supplier, SKU, unit, selling price, cost price, low stock alert level, status, and description. Stock itself should be changed through the stock adjustment section so movement history stays accurate.
Fields you can edit
- Item name.
- Preferred supplier.
- SKU or item code.
- Unit.
- Selling price.
- Cost price.
- Low stock alert level.
- Status.
- Description.
Changing prices
- Update selling price when your customer price changes.
- Update cost price when your supplier cost changes.
- Check the gross margin after changing prices.
- If margin looks negative, check whether selling price and cost price were entered the wrong way round.
Changing status
- Set Active when the item is currently being sold or tracked.
- Set Inactive when the item is discontinued, no longer sold, or should remain only for old records.
- Inactive items stay in old reports and records but should not be treated as normal active stock.
Changing stock level
- Do not simply edit item details to explain a stock difference.
- Use Adjust stock manually so Bizwazi records a movement history entry.
- This helps explain later why the stock changed.
When to use edit instead of creating a new item
- Use edit for spelling corrections, price changes, supplier updates, and low stock level changes.
- Create a new item if it is a different product, different size, different unit, or different SKU.
