Cash Control & Discrepancies

Why M-PESA and Cash can both look wrong at the same time

Understand how one wrong account choice can make two balances incorrect.

Cash and M-PESA can both look wrong when a transaction is entered under the wrong account.

Example: M-PESA sale recorded as Cash

  • A customer pays KSh 1,000 by M-PESA.
  • The sale is accidentally recorded as Cash.
  • Cash looks KSh 1,000 too high.
  • M-PESA looks KSh 1,000 too low.

Example: M-PESA withdrawal not recorded

  • You withdraw KSh 5,000 from M-PESA into Cash.
  • The transfer is not recorded.
  • M-PESA may look too high.
  • Cash may look too low.

How to fix it

  • Find the transaction.
  • Correct the account or add the missing transfer.
  • Review both balances again.
