When should you change your business day cut-off time?
Know when changing the cut-off time is useful and when to avoid it.
You should only change your business day cut-off time when your real trading routine needs it.
Steps
- Change it if your business regularly closes after midnight.
- Change it if sales made shortly after midnight should belong to the previous trading day.
- Change it if your end-of-day cash-up happens in the early morning rather than at midnight.
- Do not change it just to make one report look different.
- Do not keep changing it from week to week, because this can make old figures harder to compare.
Useful tips
- Choose one consistent rule and keep it.
- If the business usually closes at 10pm, 00:00 is normally fine.
- If the business closes at 2am, a 04:00 or 06:00 cut-off may make more sense.
